Hypertension
High blood pressure or hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and is one of the leading causes of death and illness from stroke, heart attack and kidney failure worldwide. Uncontrolled hypertension is also a major cause of visual impairment and worsening of peripheral blood circulation.
Good blood pressure (BP) control is therefore of critical importance and patients with hypertension should have thorough evaluation to look for possible causes of their hypertension and also to guide them as to what is the best treatment to help lower their BP to acceptable values. Hypertension is often asymptomatic in the majority of individuals and therefore is frequently detected as an incidental finding. |
